Moral Issues

A.        Abortion 

We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being.  Abortion is, therefore, murder.  (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)

 

B.        Sexuality 

We believe that sexual relations were designed by God exclusively for a man and woman who are lawfully married.  We believe that any form of fornication, adultery, pornography, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, etc. are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex.  (Genesis 2:24; 19:5,13; 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1; 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4)

 

C.        Divorce and Remarriage 

We believe that marriage is a divine institution and that God intends marriage to last until one of the spouses dies.  We believe divorce is a distortion of God's intention for marriage.  The scriptures allow (but in no way require) divorce when a spouse is a habitual and unrepentant adulterer.  Remarriage is not recommended, as this leaves the door open for reconciliation.

Although divorced as well as divorced and remarried persons may hold certain positions of service in the local church and be greatly used of God, they may not be considered for the offices of Pastor or Deacon.  (Malachi 2:14-17; Matthew 5:31; 19:3-12; Romans 7:1-3; I Corinthians 7:10-11; I Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:6)
